Writing an Effective Resume
Your resume should describe your skills, experiences, interests and accomplishments. The majority of employers require a resume as part of the application process for internships. There is no one way to write a resume, but if you follow the tips below you can put together an effective resume.
-
- Direct your resume to the job description of the internship you are seeking
-
-
- Emphasize team work, communication, problem solving and technical skills
-
-
- Focus on your accomplishments rather than duties
-
-
- Use action verbs like coordinated, designed, generated, implemented, maintained, organized and revised to describe your experience and skills
-
-
- Limit the resume to one page in length
-
-
- Make sure it is neat, with margins, bullets and spacing in order
-
-
- Double-check the spelling, punctuation and grammar
-
-
- Do not include personal information such as age, race, date of birth, physical characteristics
-
When emailing a resume:
-
- Save in a file that includes your name — Your_ name_Resume.doc — for ease of identification
-
-
- Send the file as an attachment, not as part of the body of the email
-
-
- Include a message in the email introducing yourself, identifying the position you are interested in, and stating that your resume is attached
